Anyone who knows me knows by now that there’s an enormous soft spot in my heart for JJANGYOU. Since his days in ILLAP I’ve been just head-over-heels for his delivery, the warped and wavy madness of his music. “Wave,” though, takes a different approach to everything leading up to it. More pop conventions than the gritty, grimy music that defined pretty much all his music from debut to 2017’s “KOKI7.” While it doesn’t appeal to me as most of his older stuff, there’s still so much heart. There’s still a bit of a growl there, even if it is heavily doused in something sweeter.
