Marilyn Manson – WE ARE CHAOS
Well this is most certainly a far cry from “Antichrist Superstar.” The bleeding, seeping darkness of Manson’s earlier work tempered down to a buzzing cynicism as he’s gotten older. His voice is no less glorious and nuanced. But as with most of the hardest rockers, with age comes perspective, reflection and mostly just a general sense of mellow. The music still has its beauty and wonder, but it’s certainly more refined than the spectacle that gave us “The Beautiful People” and “The Dope Show.” That being said, this is still a well put-together rock album that harkens back to a time when darkness wasn’t a fashion statement.
